It is not a secret that China was associated with enormous development over the past decades. However, the car industry is not something people know about China across the world. Today we have Japan, Germany and the United States as three major players in the automotive world, which tend to move the industry from combustion engines to hybrids or electric ones, but would China?
Today’s world is all about technology, gadgets, and electronics. That is where China was performing quite well within recent years with portable consumer devices. There are many well-known brands such as Huawei, Xiaomi, DJI and others which are competing with big names from Europe or the States.
Over the past 100 years, the automotive industry was something conservative and comprehensive which is hard to replicate with the lack of engineering power in China. However looking at the past 5-7 years, we can see the electrical engineering companies are taking off in China. If we take a look at Tesla case in the US, we can see how this company was able to transform the positioning of personal vehicle and understanding of its future.
Today car is no longer “comprehensive” mechanism which is interfaced with complex engineering solutions which should be reliable and tested with the long-lasting technological processes, it is an electronic “device”, and like it was said before, China became very good in building this kind of consumer products. And now Tesla is not the only one, because there is an Asian alternative is coming into the market.
A Chinese company called Bordrin Motor Corporation presented their new electric vehicles which are aiming to take their place in the luxury segment in the consumer market. It is a young company, but with the solid background supported by the government of China. Bordrin company established in 2016 with an investment of $1.6 billion. It is fronted by former Ford engineer Huang Ximing and has facilities in Munich and Detroit, as well as in China. Ex-Mini designer Gert Hildebrand heads design.
There are two models which were introduced to the public – both of them are electric. Bordrin iV6 positioned as Smart Electric Crossover SUV for daily driving. It is compact, simple, minimalistic, but promises to deliver the extraordinary driving experience with up to 600km battery range.
Looking at the design, it can remind you of Porsche or Tesla model X. But what you can do, in today’s reality we see similar design almost anywhere.
iV7 is a Smart Electric Luxury SUV with off-road capabilities which are supported by 700km battery range. So you can drive around the countryside with ease. Moreover, from the design perspective, it has a significant similarity to the latest Range Rover vehicles, which proven themselves as an icon of everyday Luxury. Where is it going to?
Well, electric vehicles become more digital than ever before. That means that this niche will be growing with enormous pace and there is no exclusion that over the next years new companies and countries will put their names on the global map.
