Miloš Karadaglić is an award-winning classical guitarist and Deutsche Grammophon/Mercury Classics recording artist from Montenegro.
Karadaglić first started playing the guitar at the age of eight. By the time he was a teenager, the Yugoslav Wars were raging and, although Montenegro was spared from direct conflict, its citizens were isolated from the rest of Europe. Despite all obstacles, the 17-year-old Miloš successfully applied for a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music and moved to London, where he has continued to live while keeping close ties with his family and homeland.
Miloš’ passion for the guitar is matched with an intuitive sense of how to bring the instrument across to his public – whether it be for an audience of 3000 in the Royal Albert Hall or an intimate chamber music performance for 100 people. He enjoys performing in the major concert halls as much as in non traditional venues such as New York’s Le Poisson Rouge, London’s Camden Roundhouse (iTunes Festival) and Deutsche Grammophon’s Yellow Lounge club nights in London, Berlin, Amsterdam and Seoul.
Miloš’ first three releases on “The Yellow Label” achieved major chart successes around the globe and turned him into “classical music’s guitar hero” (BBC Music Magazine) overnight. His 2014 recording of Rodrigo’s concertos had Sunday Times calling him “The King of Aranjuez”. In January 2016, his fourth album, “Blackbird – The Beatles Album” was released to much acclaim. Recorded in the infamous Abbey Road Studio 2, it features classic Beatles songs performed in innovative new arrangements by Sérgio Assad and includes collaborations with the jazz legend Gregory Porter, pop singer Tori Amos, cellist Steven Isserlis and a sitar superstar Anoushka Shankar. On the departure from the core classical repertoire, Miloš said: “Recording this album opened a door into a very different reality. It felt as if I was exploring an alter ego I never knew I had”.
Miloš is a brand ambassador for the luxury Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil. 2014 saw the launch of a new exclusive special edition watch that he personally designed in aid of charity and support to the orphanage “Mladost” in Bijela, Montenegro. A second edition of the watch will be released this year, limited to 50 pieces.
In addition to his charitable work, Miloš is a passionate supporter of music education and acts as a Patron of the Mayor of London Fund for Young Musicians and the Awards for Young Musicians. He is an Ambassador for Live Music Now and the Wigmore Hall’s Learning Programme.
This weekend Milos will give concert at Lustica Bay, which is organised as part of the Kotor Art Festival 2016
