Operosa Festival 2017 is about to start

Tomorrow the Operosa Montenegro Opera Festival 2017 will start for the 11th consecutive year in Herceg Novi.

Since 2006 Operosa has been promoting young talent. The festival will open in Forte Mare on Wednesday, August 23rd with 3 stunning sopranos: Olivera Ticevic, Marijana Sovran and Milica Milanovic – the Montenegrin Divas – together with Serbian guest quartet Rocher.

Other exciting Festival performances include the Classical Moment in Old Town on Thursday, August 24th and the closing festival concert with the Montenegrin Operosa Festival Orchestra and special guests, Egyptian violinist Basma Edrees (alumni and professionally engaged at the Julliard School of Music, San Francisco Conservatory and Oakland Symphony Orchestra), whose participation has been generously supported by Mr. Samih Sawiris, and the Portuguese conductor Jan Wierzba, whose participation was made possible by the opera network ENOA.

The highlight of the program is the Montenegrin opera premiere “Iolanta” by Tchaikovsky in Kanli Kula on Friday the 25th. The cast of the opera are from Italy, Austria, United Kingdom, Russia, Ukraine, Egypt, Serbia and Bulgaria.

In the spirit of Operosa and our mission of reaching young audiences through the Young at Opera project, entrance to the second performance of the opera on Saturday the 26th and the closing concert on Sunday the 27th is once again free for all under 18-years-olds.

“It’s a magical feeling when all the pieces finally come together after long and hard work. Absolutely amazing talented artists, conductors, artistic directors and of course the audience will finally see the result of many months of preparations and numerous rehearsals. The energy is absolutely incredible!” said Katherine Haataja, Founder and Artistic Director of Operosa.

“I also want to express my appreciation for the collaboration of Herceg Novi Municipality and Herceg Fest with this unique Montenegrin opera festival in the historical venues of Kanli Kula, Forte Mare and Old Town,” said Katherine.
